Some families have an idea of what “recovery” looks like, while others have little to no understanding of the journey upon which they are about to embark. Each individual and family has a history and a story that is unique. Each family struggles in unique ways. Substance abuse, mental health issues, trauma, eating disorders, and process addictions can be difficult to comprehend by themselves, let alone what a path toward a solution looks like. Addiction and mental health crisis invite the opportunity for an intervention but an intervention is often a first step, not a solution. What happens after the patient enters treatment and the chaos stops? What does the family do in the aftermath? How do they begin to pick up the pieces? What if we embraced the idea of an intervention as the beginning of paradigm shift for the entire family system, a first step on a path to living life in a healthier, more sustainable way.

High-level negotiator, mental health expert and intervention leader Heather R. Hayes has developed a blueprint for safely and securely intervening on individuals grounded in a Trauma-Informed Intervention Protocol ™. This presentation will  explore the history of interventions, intervention dynamics, and the importance of working as a therapeutic team to best support movement out of crisis and into healing and recovery.
