My practice is built on my respect for human resiliency: a belief in our ability to live through and move forward from great difficulty and deep hurts. I approach my clients with warmth and curiosity and seek to nurture a holding space that feels safe to address whatever unique concerns you bring. In sessions, I am engaged and accessible, starting with your present concerns and also facilitating interest in your deeper self. Knowing the positive impact of psychotherapy personally, I am passionate about walking alongside others navigating this courageous process.

I enjoy working with adults dealing with life transitions, grief and loss, family of origin concerns, relationship issues, trauma, sexuality concerns, body image issues, and anxiety.

I also have a special interest in fertility-related struggles, pregnancy and postpartum concerns, difficult or traumatic birth experiences, and the unique emotional and physical toll these experiences can take. In addition, I see individuals and couples who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss as well as those who are coping with children’s difficult medical diagnoses.

I am a licensed clinical social worker (TN license #6798) and completed my master of science in social work through the University of Tennessee’s College of Social Work. I completed a bachelor of arts in public relations from Auburn University in 2002. I am a member of the Nashville Psychotherapy Institute and the National Association of Social Workers and am an adjunct faculty member at The College of Traditional Midwifery in Summertown, Tenn., where I teach on loss and grief. I have also completed training in attachment- and somatic-based Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) which can be employed to treat trauma and anxiety among other issues. I hold a certificate in maternal mental health from Postpartum Support International and was trained and certified as a birth doula through DONA International.

I practice from a psychodynamic perspective, an approach that is curious about how our past impacts our present, while also employing interventions rooted in cognitive behavioral and interpersonal therapies. Additionally informed by personal experiences with Gestalt therapy and seven-plus years in an ongoing modern analytic training group, my practice is guided by an appreciation for the transformative power of self-exploration with a here-and-now focus. Ultimately, I believe psychotherapy has the ability to positively impact our relationships and help us to be our most whole and authentic selves.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends, reading, cooking, camping, watching movies, and going to see live music and plays. I also love spending time my spouse and our two kids (three if you count our dog Greta.)
