Personal Statement
"Pain is not only a physical manifestation, but also an emotional, cognitive, and learned experience in reaction to trauma. Despite the multifaceted underpinnings of chronic pain, treatment is frequently limited to either medical or psychological interventions, which often prolongs suffering. However, there is hope for the chronic pain community, as more practitioners like myself are providing care within an integrative framework that combines physical rehabilitation, disease and medication management, and psychotherapeutic services. Within this network, I strive to initiate and sustain a dialogue about pain that eradicates stigma, invasive treatment approaches, feelings of hopelessness/helplessness, and illness misinformation, which thwarts rehabilitation. Helping people with this invisible illness approach life with chronic pain and find meaning in the midst of forfeiture is truly rewarding. My mission is to engender commitment to healing, hope, and social connectivity within the chronic pain population, so people can transform from being a pain sufferer into a pain warrior."
