Personal Statement
Lizzie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a special interest in the treatment of trauma (complex, acute, neglect, abuse), addictive disorders, codependency and relationship issues, family of origin issues and chronic stress. She utilizes a variety of models including fully adherent Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Experiential Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapies, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing. Lizzie has served as a family counselor, relapse prevention specialist, residential substance abuse counselor and intervention coordinator. She has focused on improving systems of care through program design and multi-disciplinary collaborations in local government and administrative roles. Lizzie is a current committee member for the National Association of Social Workers-Tennessee Chapter (NASW-TN). She received her Bachelor’s in Social Work from Belmont University and her Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee. Most recently Lizzie created a Social Work Department imbedded in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Defender’s Office in order to bring an ecological framework and a focus on social welfare to the discussion of human behavior and criminology. This Department assists the attorneys with holistic legal defense, identifies and diagnoses bio-psycho-social and systemic issues that impede the clients’ movement through the justice system. In addition to her practice in Bellemeade, Lizzie provides clinical supervision to the medical case management team at Street Works, a local non-profit agency working to prevent the spread of HIV disease and provide care and supportive services for those infected and affected through outreach, education, and advocacy in communities of greatest risk. Lizzie is also an adjunct professor for undergraduate students in Social Work at Belmont University, teaching courses in Substance Use Disorders and Treatment, Trauma-Informed Social Work and Introduction to Social Work. When not at work, Lizzie enjoys practicing yoga, traveling, rock climbing, spending time outdoors with her husband and their two dogs Sadie and Bella, attempting Pinterest projects, and occasionally burning things in her kitchen. To date, she has only poisoned her husband once with her culinary prowess.
